Adrian Thaws (they use to call him Tricky kid) nowadays known as Tricky, is the Jean- Michel Basquait of the music scene, when it comes to developing an own signature (in his case sound). Rough and hoarse, from quirky fragile lullabies to pounding rock and everything in between. A total musician, I would say, who writes sincere texts from an enormous self-knowledge and thus makes very personal albums.
Ever since his first appearance at massive attack's first album, Tricky was a voice that always struck and attracted me. So the moment he decided to go solo I could only see that as an advantage. With all respect for Massive attack, which I'm also a big fan of.
His debut had a huge impact on me, despite the high expectation I had, he managed to outdo that effortlessly.
Since then, every new album he releases is an adventure in which he explores new paths by collaborating with artists from various genres and composing there contribution in such a way that it fits seamlessly with his typical atmosphere.
And what I like the most...despite these natural mastership, Tricky remains down to earth. Man among the people, who does his thing in all simplicity. Proof that he really cares about the music and not the industry that determines everything in terms of image and lifestyle. RESPECT!
My choice for this post goes to a track from his third album 'Blowback', called; 'Evolution revolution love', simply because it's a pearl of a masterpiece that has already accompanied me through various stages in life. A stayer from the highest level...
