Today I did my first bit of busking as part of my duo with clarinettist Danielle that goes by the name of @Swing47. She contacted the authorities in Letchworth and they said we could play in the arcade. There was talk of having power to plug in a PA, but that did not materialise. When we turned up there was nobody about, so we set up in front of an empty shop. We were both using tablets for our music as it is more convenient than paper and we cannot remember all the tunes we play. I do know a few by heart.
Letchworth is a small town and it was not particularly busy, but someone would go past every few minutes. Some would stop to listen and a few dropped some coins in the guitar case.
It was raining on and off, so we were happy to be under cover, but it was a little chilly. My hands got a bit cold and my weak right hand struggled a bit. I just cannot play for too long. I played a few on ukulele, but that is a bit quiet without amplification. I was singing too. The acoustics were great with some nice natural reverberation. There was a bench just in front of us where some people stopped to listen.
A friend of ours was there with his family and he was able to take some pictures and video.
We took a break for some lunch before returning to the same spot for another hour. By then my voice was shot and I could not really play much more anyway. We both really enjoyed the experience. There was a guy sitting there during the second set on his lunch break who said we made his day! We had other nice comments. Several kids were fascinated too. We do You've Got A Friend In Me from Toy Story that they would recognise. We need a few more child-friendly songs. I think the older folk appreciated that we played music they would know from their younger days. It makes a change from Wonderwall.
So you may be wondering if we made any money. Well we made enough to pay for the car park plus a little extra. We were not doing it for the money, but it is nice that people will give some. The first donation was before we even started playing. I think posting on Steem is a little like busking as you rely on the generosity of those who see what you are doing.
The coin on the right is an Egyptian Pound that is worth about 5p.
We may well do this again some time. We are also looking for local venues who would like us to play. We have a good collection of tunes and we just enjoy it. We repeated a few tunes today as it was a different audience each time.
@molometer has posted another video from our Balstock festival appearance. We played Cantina Band today too. People recognise it even if they do not realise it is from Star Wars.
Rock on!

Sounds alright does that.... all legal as well..!!
Your balance is below $0.3. Your account is running low and should be replenished. You have roughly 10 more @dustsweeper votes. Check out the Dustsweeper FAQ here: https://steemit.com/dustsweeper/@dustsweeper/dustsweeper-faq
Just found this little gem. Love that tune and it sounds so good in that arcade. Nice reverberations.
Good to see you both 'in the pink' 👍🎸
Haha
The world is full of jokers 😂😂🎼👍
The acoustics were a bonus. A bit warmer would have been nice. Might have to get some fingerless gloves.
Full on busker attire and they would work well as it gets colder.
Ah, awesome. Busking looks more lucrative than Steem at the moment though :)
Well if you subtract expenses then we made a loss, but there is more to life than money. I did a little poster for the guitar case that mentioned we are on Facebook, Soundcloud and Steem :) I look forward to the day when I can send a busker a Steem vote by waving my phone over a barcode. I see some already have card readers.
Steem is getting less lucrative when Mr Shithead uses both his accounts to downvote me :( Oh well. He will get bored before I do. At least I have some friends.
Mate thats great! I love decent buskers, especially when they doing something more unusual. Really cool and I hope you're going to get out there again!
Cheers. I think having something different is a good selling point for us. I just wish I could play longer, but my hand struggles after an hour or so.
Busking...love it!
Our son Miles Kean sometimes busks live jazz in New York. Central Park.
I found you because you commented on @bakingjazzpower - and this goes to show the power of the comment at Steemit! Now I learn that you "have Steem accounts to give away to worthy people" - how is this even possible? I didn't know anyone could create and GIVE AWAY accounts like that. I just advised our new Steemian @bakingjazzpower to save his password ASAP. Our son lost his. No more money from me in his wallet! It's lost, lost, lost, unless he discovers his password was saved in Google Chrome. Or something like that. -_-
Thank you for your support of new Steemians!
I've been here more than two years but I am unlikely ever to become a whale or big fish of any stripe. But I do love this community!
You can create account if you have enough resource credits that are related to you SP. I have done this lots of times and am always looking for creative people who want to join up without having to wait. I will delegate to them too if they can show they have good content on other platforms.
Saving your keys is vital. There are ways to recover an account, but it can be complicated and is not always possible. I know of a few people who lost their keys and some lost control by exposing their keys on fraudulent sites. I recommend Lastpass as a password manager, but keep another copy anyway.
If you can buy a little Steem it may be a good time for that. I am doing so when I can.
I see you are already a minnow. If you can power up more of your Steem and SBD it will boost the votes you can give.
Ah yes. Carl Nash walked me through the process of Powering UP, which raised my vote to an astonishing TWO CENTS. :) But I have more funds now and could see if it's enough to raise mto the a THREE-CENT upvote.
I'm a minnnow, not a red fish or tadpole...? Is this a good thing?
Ohhhh man, I do need to get with the program and keep up with political and economic aspects of Steemit.
Thank you. (And now, to GIVE AWAY a Steemit account: seriously? News to me.)
You can maybe give more 1c votes now :) Any extra curation power helps to spread the rewards. You may not have enough RC to create accounts yet. I do it via SteemWorld, but other services can do it too. Just let me know if anyone needs an account urgently.
That's fabulous, bravo to both of you!
The life of a street musician is hard yet rewarding. Sometimes :)

Cheers. I would not want to be doing it every day, but it was a good experience. We used the time to work on some songs.
Very niice. Good idea to do soundtrack music that kids will recognise. Shame that Disney's 'The Jungle Book' was so long ago.
"Now I'm the king of the swingers..>"
We've discussed that song and Danielle feels it has racist undertones. Not sure kids would notice. She does fancy doing Bare Necessities.
Interesting. I'd not thought of it as a metaphor. Bare Necessities is a worry as well, in that case.
But then, you won't get much money busking Strange Fruit. Songs are of their time.

BEER
.Hey @steevc, here is a little bit of
BEER
for you. Enjoy it!You probably could have made more money if you weren't reading your music off of a tablet . Once they see that they probably figure you don't need it. Since you don't really care about it anyway, I guess it is just as well! :)
Do I need to look like I really need the money? It would take years just to pay for my guitar at this rate. People were willing to give a pound, so I appreciate that. It might have been different in a really busy place, but then there would be more pressure to perform.
