China huge and diverse land endows the country with some of the greatest attractive natural scenery on earth. From the charming karst landscape in Guilin and Yangshuo to the precipitous pillars in Zhangjiajie, from the interesting lakes in Jiuzhaigou to the Colorful Mountains in Zhangye, China's natural attractiveness is as impressive as its splendid culture.

Zhangye's Danxia Landscape — Multicolored Mountains

The Danxia scenery in Zhangye is brightly named "Multicolored Mountains" by many due to its splendid colours. Danxia means 'red, red clouds'. In China's distant northwest, Zhangye is unnoticed by normal travellers but acutely loved by photographers.
The scenery is composed of curvy, layered, multihued formations, greatest of which are many hundred meters high. Once the sun shines on them, their colours looked in full vibrancy. It looks like an oil image when the vast red pillar formations are simply set beside a pure blue sky.

The Yellow Mountains

These mystical mountains are the most attractive and most well-known in China. Their typical attractions are outstanding dawns and their "four natural wonders": peculiar pines, oddly-shaped rocks, oceans of clouds, and warm springs.

Hongcun is an attractive village with lovely watery scenes round its lotus pools and bridges, as well as attractively crafted building. Wuyuan — China's Most Beautiful Rural Area

Wuyuan is greeted by Chinese travellers as "the most lovely landscape in China". The typical image of Wuyuan is rural life under interesting blossoms.
From first March to mid-April, Wuyuan is enclosed in a yellow carpet tile of cole flowers. Fall foliage is another highlight of the area.

Xiapu — Mudflats and Traditional Seaside Life

Xiapu is a secreted gem, yet to be exposed by ordinary travellers. The area has attractive mudflats and a humble lifestyle and is deeply loved by photographers from all over the world.
The scenery changes constantly. At times there is sea water and at times just mud, with seaweed drying on bamboo poles. Fishermen and seaweed harvesters make a living there, in harmony with the tides that sweep through.
