Diving in The Netherlands

in #nature7 years ago

I like diving very much. For me it is a hobby. A nice way to relax.
I already logged more than 500 dives in my logbook.
I prefer diving in nice and warm water with a good visability.
In The Netherlands, were I live, we don't have that so much.
Thats why 80 % of my dives are logged outside The Netherlands.

But diving in The Netherlands, is good for your experience. Because of the difficult circumstances. If you can dive here, you can dive everywhere.

So, 3 weeks ago, I start diving in The Netherlands again. The water is getting warm after the winter and it the water looked clear.

The disavantage of diving in The Netherlands is that you need a thick wetsuit or drysuit, gloves and a cap. For me it feels not comfortable.
You also have to walk to the divesite with your gear on. Sometimes more than 200 meters and across the dike with a 12 liter tank with compressed air on your back and 10 kilo extra weight around your body.

But now, after 3 dives in april, I can tell you, it was not to bad. I enjoyed it.
Although the watertemperature was about 7 to 10 degrees, we stayed in the water for almost 40 minutes. Sometimes the visability was good, sometimes very bad. We found a wreck, but the water was very turbid overthere, so there was not much to see. Somewhere else we saw crabs, lobsters, nudibranches, shrimps, mussels and jellyfish.

Next weekend I will go again. I heard the first sepias are spotted in The Netherlands in the Oosterschelde, Zeeland.

But to be honest.

I can't wait for the next diving destination outside Europe. Warm (28 degrees) and clear water.
Just my 3 mm wetsuit, no gloves, no cap, no walking with my gear on. Just jumping from the boat.
I think it will be The Phillippines.

Diving is fun.

Sort:

I know the feeling. I don't have a dry suit so my first dive here in Belgium is planned on Sunday and it will be a cold one (fresh water dive in 'de Gavers'). I enjoy diving in old stone quarry's the most but an old sand quarry like de bosmolenplas are also nice.

It's nothing compared to coral's off course. I try to do a yearly trip of a week to Egypt and try to do some diving on my bigger holiday (Indonesia last year).

I've been to the Phillipines back in 2015 and logged 21 dives over there. What comes to mind are the thresher sharks on Malapascua and the WW2 wrecks at Coron.

Been snorkling with whalesharks at Donsel where they are not fed like at Cebu. It was an experience I will never forget snorkling right next to these giants.

Hi @pieter87. Thanks for your comment. I will keep your suggestions for The Phillipines in my mind.
Have fun sunday.

I tried diving before and I saw an astonishing view.It seems like I was in another world. I'm from Philippines, I can assure you there are alot of beautiful diving destination here. Nice photo by the way @kakkalama :-)

The whaleshark is still on my bucketlist. I heard you can dive with them in the philippines.

Cool. Still looks so cold to me (as an Australian !) . Some nice shots.

You are right. I dived at the ningaloo reef and great barrier reef as well. And I can tell you, that was 100 times better.
