KATYDIDS

in #nature3 years ago

Katydids are included in the tettigoniidae family, in which there are about 6,000 species of nocturnal insects which are categorized as katydids. The largest group comes from the ensifera suborder, in the order orthoptera. The katydit can be recognized easily by its large hind legs from its very long thread-like antennae and its thick, upward curving female ovipositor.
Katydid is a phonetic name based on the screeching sound they produce when they rub their two forewings
