A change is as good as a rest!

I can still hear my mom saying this to us as we were kids. This is a statement that has stuck with me since I was a little kid running around. I know you can apply this to a lot of different aspects of life. I have used it as work or with the kids but today I want to talk about it in the aspect of fitness and how that change can be just as good as a rest.

I think sometimes as we work out when we are older we think we need rest days and days off. While I agree with this I think often we think rest days mean doing absolutely nothing. I think they should be more about changing it up but still staying active.

Lots of time when I hit the gym super hard my body really does need a rest. I have been known to take 1 too many rest days. Then you just get back to the gym and then get really sore again. So this past little while instead of rest days I have start to change it up and do some of the following activities.

Play Basketball

Play Tennis/Pickleball

Go on a hike

Go for a walk

Bike Ride with the kiddos

Yard work.

Seriously just change it up and recognize that it usually is just as good for your body and mind as a rest day.
