By 2040, computers will consume more electricity than the ability to produce MANKIND

Computers play an important role in modern society. The number of sold PCs and laptops is growing at a tremendous speed, as, indeed, and the volume of energy consumed by these devices. If we take into account more and huge server farms, coupled with powerful supercomputers, to farm production cryptocurrency that absorb electricity as a black hole, it is not at all at ease. The recently published report of the Association of manufacturers of semiconductors led many experts wonder whether we will be able to provide their power computers in the near future?

Since 1990, the commission of leading industry experts, which included representatives from 19 leading manufacturers of microprocessors, was a kind of map use appropriate technology power. Today, the association remained only the representatives of the four chip manufacturers - is Intel, TSMC, Samsung and Global Foundries. The last report of the organization on the semiconductor chip energy research is somewhat alarming, because, according to him, already by 2040 we will not be able to feed our computers. You can see it all for yourself in the chart below.

Humanity is approaching the point when the economy ( and not a physicist , as previously thought Gordon Moore ) becomes an obstacle to the further development of computer technologies . The global computing infrastructure today bites off a pretty decent chunk of the world's energy . If you believe the experts , then by 2040, but perhaps before humanity will not be able to cope with the needs of computers in electricity. What happens outside of that mark in the diagram - is difficult to guess .Of course, today it is only predictions and forecasts , as we know, is not always true . But if the experts are right , humanity will have to change anything on the device or computer , or in energy production .
