TIPS FOR NEWBIES ON HOW TO GROW FAST. PART 1

in #newbieresteemday7 years ago (edited)

Are you a newbie and you post a lot of good original stuffs but have been suffering from low upvotes?
Are you frustrated, and you feel like quitting steemit because of poor recognition?
Then this post is for you.

Firstly, before I start sharing the tips I will like to make it clear to you newbies that steemit is not like facebook, Instagram, twitter or any other social media where do upvote for upvote or follow for follow. If you think its really gonna help at all then you are naïve about “Steem power”.
You can google what is steem power and how it works.
Its funny seeing a minnow texting a whale “upvote for upvote”. Its like a poor man asking a rich man to trade his bag of coins for a penny.

How do you get good views/upvotes on your post?
1 Make good use of Tags.
I’ll explain how a Tag works with a soldier firing his gun at targets from a far distance.
1.jpgHoping to hit the target board.
I will take myself for instance, I’m an artist and also a writer but I post more of art.
TAGS.JPG
Now when I(the soldier) makes a post(fires gun) for a lot of people(targets) to see, the Tag is like target I (the soldier) is aiming at, if the soldier is meant to shoot the "ART" target but aims and firs the "FUNNY" target. He shot down a target but the wrong one.
In summary, when you make a post, tag people that are interested in the type of information you are sharing at that very moment.
It will be very stupid of me to tag DRAWING or ART(like I always do) to this very post.
There are some tag that may ensure you good upvotes and resteem as long you post something original and good.
Tags like
#Artzone tag- If you’re an artist, writer, or post anything that is related to art. Use the artzone tag and you may be upvoted. Make sure you follow @Artzone before tagging them. unless you will be wasting your time.
#Newbieresteem- Just like the name sounds, This is a group of charity steemit members whose mission is to help newbies grow by upvoting and resteeming quality posts. Use the @Newbieresteem Tag and you maybe curated by the curation trail. Also follow them. To join them on discord https://discord.gg/F58YQ8g
#Howto- They are similar to artzone but the difference is that they are educative. If you can give details or teach others how to do anything you’re good at, Use the @Howto tag to get better views and upvotes on your post. Follow them too.
#Helpie- Also another advanced group of charity members that help newbies stand on their feet. tag them and follow @helpie, if your content is good. they might help you get more views.
If you know any other tag that is helpful, please drop it in the comment.
2 ALWAYS INSERT PICTURES IN YOUR WRITE UP.
It may sound strange but the truth is that we human beings always need something delicious to the eyes to keep our attention.
watch-your-favorite-movies-online-3.jpg
Its one thing to get attention(With the title of your post) and a whole different thing to keep it(with the pictures and good content). Just imagine yourself reading this post now without any picture attached to it, even me that wrote it will quit half way out of boredom.
3 STOP ARMING AT MONEY AND ENJOY STEEMIT
Sometimes the best way to find is to stop searching. Instead of going round begging for upvotes, enjoy steemit like your social media where you spend most of your time on, even thou are not being paid. Make friends here too, I mean real FRIENDS not FOLLOWERS. Have fun,
w4-2000x1200.jpg
Before I hardly communicate with people. I always meant business and because of that mindset, I once thought of spamming steemit just to get good upvotes. After I met some friends it became fun and I began to view steemit from a different perspective. Sometimes your friends will upvote your post not because its good but because he/she is your friend. Comment on post of people that do the same thing you do. Whenever am less busy, i look an artwork to comment on, maybe applaud the artist or give some corrections. It may attract the artist to check out your blog. Just imagine what it will look like, to attract a whale to your profile.
4 PARTICIPATE IN CONTEST.
Always try your best to participate in any contest you come across, have fun.
win.jpg
If you win prizes, its all good. If you don’t, its still not bad. If your post(in the contest) was good enough, people will notice and follow you. Either way, you didn’t lose.
People like INFORMATION FINDING CHAMPIONSHIP always host a lot of cool contest, you can follow @apolymask to always be updated on contest. To join them on discord https://discord.gg/cjvjJRf
5 ALWAYS HELP OUT THOSE YOU’RE BETTER THAN.
helping-hikers.jpg
Never forget that you wouldn’t have gotten to the level you are, without the help of someone.
Once in a while, Click on the Introduceyourself tag and welcome newbies to steemit, help out those you can. Its also a good way of getting followers. Their steem power maybe irrelevant at the moment, after sometime some will grow faster than you expect. If you're always busy to be on steemit upvoting posts, find a good curation trail to join, then do a little percentage like 3%. Please try to understand how curation trail works before using it. You can check out this post to know more about curation trails. https://steemit.com/greetersguild/@greetersguild/important-announcement-this-is-how-you-can-support-the-steemit-greeters-guild-and-the-upcoming-steemians-that-we-sponsor
Less I forget, I believe all know about @ minnowsupport free upvote bot. As a minnow that is struggling to survive, I wont advice you to start paying bots for upvotes. So make good use of Minnowsupport. To join them on discord https://discord.gg/HYj4yvw
Have fun as you enjoy steemit, stop working hard and start working smart.

Great article! keep up the good work

Definitely touched some good points. Sadly most people come to steemit on the intention of making good money on every post. Which isn’t the case, and sadly drives people away when they don’t earn much to start.. it’s a zero investment gateway to potentially make you a whale. Go with it and grow your account and just enjoy the damn platform haha

I can relate to that. Over here in Nigeria, we all join with the intention of making money but some of us change along the line while some quit...

Yeah man I mean its not for everyone and thats one thing we have to understand! Tried getting my brother into it, but if he's not its completely fine too..

Excellent article - the best part: Have fun! I was exactly like you - just looking to build up as much SBD as possible and grow a following - but after meeting friends here my perspective changed too... now I'm involved in helping to support newbies with upvotes, resteems and contests that encourage interaction.

Nice to meet someone i have something in common with... Just followed you.... are you in any discord channel that helps newbies?

Nice to meet you too -I'm with #NewbieResteemDay I was invited in by @beeyou and welcomed by @davemccoy - I love helping out whenever I can

HI @jorlauski. May I kNow how to join the newbie resteem day

sorry - I didn't see this post - you can reach out to @davemccoy if you are interested in the #NewbieResteemDay - it's great to see so many people willing to jump n and help others

@jorlauski very value showcase that remind newbie like me what should be focused on. Engagement seems to be the key to long term success in steemit. This I the soft part of running steemit and it takes time to acquire. Technical aspect of steemit is important but can picked up the skill as you move along the journey.
I am in total support of your initiate to help others especially the newbies it is crucial to keep them afloat and guide them if possible to the right track
Cheers

Great advice, article and efforts at helping newcomers to the platform! :) Also thanks for mentioning the IFC! That was a cool and pleasant surprise to see. ._.

Am kinda busy now, I'm thinking of making you a new castle... Just want you to know that someone out there appreciates what you're doing

Thanks for using #artzone tag! Artzone can give just one upvote per day!

Thanks... I really didn't expect your upvote this time around... Just wanted to applaud you guys

Good way to help your friends, love this! .. next time tag #helpie to let the @helpie people see your skills and get to know you

Congratulations you have been upvoted and resteemed as part of #newbieresteemday's top 10 posts for the day! ...

We invite you to use our tag to connect with more of our members. To learn more: Come Join Us!!! (Newbie Resteem Initiative)

I've been trying my best to connect with them. Until my previous post where a friend told me to change the "Helpie" Tag to Howto. So i was kinda convinced that they no longer function... But i will edit the post now and mention them... That they haven't noticed me doesnt change the fact they are helping newbies

Thanks @sparrowbernard u are actually leading me on the success track, to be sincere at a point I grew cold about steemit until I changed my mindset after coming across posts like this.
U are doing a great job here guiding newbees

Igbo bro alert... nice to meet you man... lemme know if you have any question or problem on steemit. also nice to know that you find the post helpful

Excellent post @sparrowbernard. You are going to soar here on Steemit. This post is packed with knowledge that all newbies can really benefit from. I really like how you explained the meaning behind each tag and the way you explained the tags using the reference of the targets was great too. We are so happy to have you as part of @greetersguild and all of the other initiaves you are supporting and being active in. Keep up the great work, my friend!

there she is... just followed you up... hey am happy you love the post

@Sparrowbernard very well written post for newbie. You have hit the nail on the head thoae areas that you have highlighted are most important which I have missed a :couple of them example are the tags uses to help newbie and participate in contest.
I could have overlooked building own network is one way to expand your reach to.more people of course with people of the same interest. 8 realised follow them is only the start engage with your them is oNl6 assured of fellowship. My 2 cents worth of thoughts.
Cheers

Thanks for reading... I'm writing the part 2. will let you know when am done

Nice one @Sparrowbernard, this is going to be a lot of help for newbies, I love the illustration you used about a solider firing his gun to his target.
Just as we receive help here to grow we should also help others too. Lovely post.

Yep... its nice to have you as a friend... you write well too

Truly enjoyed your article @sparrowbernard. I am sort of at the same point. I was getting frustrated with a few things.
I changed my approach to enjoy the platform and get involved more with people. To interact more with posts and people than just a constant stream of content that may or may not do anything. I try to keep to good quality posts once a week, unless I enter a contest.

Sounds silly I think my biggest 'obstacle right now is tagging. Still trying to find the right niche for what I am posting. It's coming along though.

I totally agree about @newbieresteemday and @greetersguild. Both groups are amazing. Just genuinely nice people that really want to help. If we work together to help each other, we all grow.

I want to make a post about their curation trail... those guys are amazing...

Oh most definitely.

This is useful @sparrowbernard. I am especially in with you on the matter of contests. I think it is th ebest for newbies. They Give a direct and guaranteed audience, i think. And depending on the host, can bring in some big votes. I am going to be more into them.

Thanks for the good write.

and she still read the crap... lolzzz... always check the contest channel of newbieresteemday and join IFC discord community... Thanks for reading anyways

well done

Thanks for this great article.
