In the incident of ambush and vandalism of Comilla University student carrying bus, the city police line area has become the battlefield. Chhatra League has complained that the attack was carried out. At least 10 wounded on both sides of the incident.
This incident happened at around 5:30 pm on Sunday in front of Comilla Government College. At that time, students and students of the Comilla Government College, BCL and activists were chased by the clashes. Later, angry students of the university blocked the roads till 7pm in protest of vandalism. At around one hour, the traffic movement was closed. Later, to bring the situation under control, the police removed the students of the university by throwing sticks and tear gas cells. Comilla University students and city unit leaders and workers have blamed each other for the incident.
It is learned that on Sunday, a bus carrying a student from Comilla University was going on the streets of the city. The bus was passing by the police line adjacent to Comilla Government College at 5:40 pm. At that time, several leaders and activists of the Comilla Government College and the Metropolitan Chhatra League stopped the bus. Then the students were asked to come down from the bus. Students protested by the university students, the BCL leaders and workers cracked the window and front glass of the bus. In between, there was a case of counter-attack and brick-kilting firing between the two parties. At least 10 people were injured in both sides. Later, BCL leaders and workers entered Comilla Government College. During this time, the students of the university university attacked and vandalized college. At the same time, some shops in the police line area were vandalized. Another bus attack was carried out in the city's Jhoutala area when vandalism of the students spread throughout the city.
Then four more buses on the other side of the city from the campus stopped in the road. Then there were traffic congestions on various roads of the city. The police came to know about the situation and tried to tackle the situation. At one stage, the students of the university took position on the western side of the police line area. On the other hand, BCL leaders and workers stood in the gates of Comilla Government College Gate and stood in the hands of sticks and rods. Then there was a cocktail blast. Later, the police threw 3 tear gas cells to bring the situation under control. At that time, the students of the university got dispersed. Then additional police came and brought the situation under control. Then the vandalized bus was taken to the police line. Comilla District unit convener Mazharul Islam Hanif said, "The BCL BCL leaders and activists blocked the program to demand Kota Reform movement in Kundirpara Pubali premises of Comilla town on Sunday noon. At that time, three of our protesters were slapped. After the program, we came out without the program. In connection with the police line, some BCL government colleges and some leaders of the city are involved in the attack. We want justice to this incident. Because of the quota reform movement, the BCL students attacked the vandalized and ambiguous general students. The police took the stand for the BCL.
But Kotwali Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abu Salam Mia said police did not take any side. The law enforced the duties of keeping the situation under normal circumstances.
Concerned over the allegation, Joint Convenor of Comilla Metropolitan Chhatra League Joint Convenor Naimul Haque said that brickbats were thrown on BCL leaders and workers from university-bound buses. Then BCL leaders and activists also formed counter-resistance. In the morning, the children of freedom fighters did a human chain in Kandirparha for Quota. Chhatra League did not attack anyone there.
But the driver of the bus carrying the driver, Afzal Mia Chowdhury, told that a group of boys came to the police line area at 5:40 pm and asked to stop the bus. Then the students asked to go down from the bus. The whole unexpected bus was vandalized not to be brought down.
Comilla Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Tanvir Salehin Emon said that the university bus was attacked suddenly. Who has attacked, it is being investigated.
Earlier on 9 May, police and Metropolitan Chhatra League did not allow movement of people to protest in Kundirpar Pubali area of Comilla city demanding a notification for quota reform. Yesterday, the program was not allowed on Sunday.
