Ransomeware Hitting Europe Hard Today; How to Protect Yourself

in #news8 years ago

Here we go again, a new and highly harmful outbreak of ransomware like 'wannacry' has been hitting Europe hard today. The Ukraine government has reported intrusions of their power grid, banks and government offices. The Ukraine has said that this was the biggest attack ever. They believe that the attacks are originating from Russia. Other countries reporting these attacks include India, Norway and Great Britain.

Ways to Protect Yourself from Ransomware -

Be sure to patch Windows with the latest software updates. (Windows XP and Windows 8 have released patches for these even though the company no longer supports them.)

• Backup all of your files. Ransomeware makes it so that everything; your photos email, database files are locked up. It's
best to backup important files to an online-backup service in the cloud in the event you lose your computer to unforeseen
circumstances such as fire, theft etc.
• Install and run anti-virus software.
• Never open email attachments that you are not expecting even though it appears to be from someone you know.

Hope this helps, stay safe everyone! If you have any other words of wisdom please list them!
