Exactly Dan. I spoke with him in 2015 and interviewed his lawyer. What they did to him was sickening and the things he was forced at gun point to do as a child were sickening too. He was used by the CIA/Al Qaeda for years as a child, hit the age of 15 and was used by the DHS at Gitmo for years, abused, beaten and even raped.
I'm disgusted by Trudeau as much as the next guy but just because the news is trying to rile people up over this doesn't mean they should. He is a victim in this who unfortunately hurt a few people and destroyed a few lives, but at the end of the barrel of a gun.

Omar's victim hood was caused by his father on the other side of the world, not the people of Canada. That the people of Canada should apologize for his father's brutal mistake is an abysmal miscarriage of justice against the people of Canada. Further, the extraordinary 10 million dollar settlement is a brutal outrage for the same reason.

Well I'm not saying tax payers should pay him anything, taxation is theft. So you're missing my point. Besides, let's not forget the US government's roll in the torture and abuse of Omar.

Exactly! Crocodile tears for this mofo are missplaced...

Can he sue the US for his treatment at Gitmo? Why am I on the hook as a taxpayer for what his dad made him do?

First time finding press for truth, love it! Thanks

Will do, keep it going!

Will do
however, you and I disagree on this one...

Very factual and well researched. I liked it. I agree that he should be compensated and he was more a victim than anything. On the other hand, I don't necessarily agree that all taxation is theft.

Yes it can be. There is tax here in China and much of it doesn't make it's way back to the people. At least in Canada we see the money come back to us in some way or form. Infrastructure like actually taking care of roads and public spaces and free medical care.

Not saying the system is perfect, it would be ideal if we had some kind of choice on how to actually spend tax dollars. Maybe with blockchain technology, a new way will be found to vote.

Like your ideas on taxation.
Disagree about Omar.
His father made the big mistake on the other side of the world. Not Canadian ppl.

Serious question. Would you feel the same way if he had killed a Canadian Soldier? Also, at what point under international law do you become an adult?

Danibus! Fantastic work as always. Got a news tip for yah! Keep your wits about you bro one wrong hole and its all over. Just like they tried with assange. Keep up the good fight!

"A second change would prevent personal records of the complainant that are in the accused’s possession, such as journals or diaries, or medical records, or perhaps personal letters, as in the Ghomeshi sex-assault trial, from being used as evidence unless a judge agrees in a private hearing."

I think I can answer some of your questions.
The canadian constitution...
Under the heading of "Guarantee of Rights and Freedoms", the section states:

“ 1. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.

The supreme court agrees! And as such has found for instance that canadians have no right to legal council when arrested, nor personal property rights.

So long as the government, or any government agency or employee such as a police officer duely notifies you as such.

In other words, Canadians have a charter of privileges to be infringed upon at the will and whim of the government.
You can thank Justin's daddy for a constitution that protects the government from the people.

But keep hope. The constitutional right of all Canadians to have sex with adolescence children has been secured with the removal of that nasty anal sex law! (sarcasm)

I hope they won't make the same mistake twice.

Who is 'they'
Omar's father?
Guatanimo?
That Canadians have to apologize for Omar's father's mistake & pay out a huge settlement to Omar is a miscarriage of justice.

They are guantanamo /usa who failed to respect international child right . Im also pissed about the conclusions of this story but child right violation is not acceptable.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't mind spending time in Guantanamo if I got a 10.5 million payout at the end!
