Recently there was a lot of drama that can be seen on the social media platform particularly on Facebook, Twitter among others. In fact, the famous issue of Jollibee Fried Towel started from a social media post which became a hot issue among netizens for the obvious reason that Jollibee made a terrible mistake that the chicken given to the customer is actually not a chicken but a towel which was allegedly used by the crew in preparing fried chicken (correct me if I’m wrong).

For this blog, I will just talk about my thoughts on social media, its good and bad sides:

The Good Side of Social Media
There are a lot of good effects social media brings to people but I will just mention some of those advantages and these are the following:

Social Media is a good way of communication and a good way to get information
Now that we are in a pandemic. It is so hard to imagine staying at home or working at home without social media for us to be updated with current events and to communicate with our friends, classmates, teachers, work colleagues, our employers, employees, and other people whether for work, study or to simply socialize and have fun.

Social Media is a great avenue to express ourselves
Through social media, people express their views and opinions on various topics from politics to entertainment to anything that they want. They can express themselves in different ways, it can be through music, art, dance, and many more.

Social Media can be a career path and a way to earn money
Social Media can open the door for people to earn money by online selling, the barter which became a trend last year hehe and etc. In fact, there are people who became famous on the internet with hundreds or maybe millions of fans. They are called social media influencers. There were like celebrities but on social media platforms. From the term itself, they are “influencers” in the social media world. They can be seen on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, and others and they are earning money mind you though I think it depends on how big they are so it’s not as easy as it seems.

The Bad Side of Social Media
Earlier, we talked about the good sides of social media now let’s go to the bad sides of social media. There is also a lot but I will only mention some of the disadvantages here in this hive blog. These are the following:

Social Media can be dangerous to children
As mentioned,. Social media is a great avenue for communication and information however this platform can be very dangerous to children because they might be exposed to pornography and other bad things. Through social media, they might learn nonsense things or adult things, or worse they might be influenced by bad people that they encounter.

Social Media is a source of scams and other bad things
It is very sad that a platform used for information and communication is being used by other people to harm their fellow human beings and taking their hard-earned money through scams, hacking, and others things. The developers or the owners of these sites should put stronger privacy settings for the safety and security of its users.

Social Media is full of fake news and toxicity
Social Media is becoming toxic, that’s a fact full of hate and full of fake news. The internet nowadays is full of hate, negativity, stress, and lies. People online are so used to say bad things to others, not only to celebrities and social media influencers but also to their enemies, their problems in Life, and other drama they have. In addition to that, people are so good at spreading fake news that if you are not careful you will end up believing those wrong information, or worse, you will be in danger.

These are just some of the good sides and bad sides of social media. Just a reminder, this is only my opinion that’s it. Let us all remember to always spread positivity and happiness in our social media accounts, be updated on the latest happenings, be alert and be safe from bad people on the internet.
