Oripa - The Origami Crease Pattern Maker

in #origami5 years ago

This is a really neat program which I have been playing with for most of yesterday evening. It lets you create your own crease patterns to puzzle other origamists with and will even test fold your model if it lays flat.

I have made three CP's so far. The button star was the most fun even if it won't test fold due to it's 3D nature.

These are the result of a brainstorming afternoon a week or so ago to come up with Christmas origami I could teach to a table of under ten year olds.

Quick and with a minimum of steps as well as the ability to be glued to the Christmas card they will be making.

I will eventually be making a video of how to make them, but my next three weeks will be kind of tight time wise so no promises on when.

This is the CP for the leaf pattern.

This is the CP for the button star the symbol next to it is the one you get when something is preventing the program from completing a test fold. It will also highlight the problem point. As you can see there is no problem point it's just that it is not flat.

The third one is not quite right. I haven't yet learnt how to mark the paper in thirds, so it's not a true representation, but you get to see the test fold.

Similar but not exactly like the unit to make a sliding ninja star

So many fun things.

If you would like to make your own CP's or just play around with the maths I highly recommend Oripa which is available for Android in Google Play.

Truly amazing @gmatthe. Maybe someone like me can do this too with this kind of help.

You never know until you try.

Really neat! I've been thinking of adding origami to our homeschool curriculum, but this looks like a nice entry point to look it as well! #steemitbloggers

What a fun tool!! Can't wait to see what kinds of cards you are going to make with the kids!

It will be in around 2 weeks time. I will definitely take pictures.

Hello that is pretty cool i was think to do origami for our kinda but those seems a bit to hard:)

I remember playschool making newspaper origami hats and castaway shirts for kids to fold and wear. Will see if I can hunt down a video link after Breakfast.

Hooo sounds great i will have a look i really like playschool it gives great ideas

I couldn’t find the playschool one, but here is an easy to follow youTube video of the pirate hat. The staples are only needed if the hat is going to be too big for the child.

It does look fun to play with.

It's a lovely simple program which does exactly what it says on the tin.

I guess that's why kids and some adults like it so much.

This looks nice

Thank you.

Oh wow, that's really neat! I remember doing origami just a little bit as a kid and really enjoying it. I think the geometric nature of it appealed to me. That's really cool that you can make up some of your own designs. I'll definitely have to watch out for your updates to see how it goes!

Next year I plan to introduce the free library class to the basics of designing new models. Would this be something that is of interest?

We're always looking for fun new things to try with my niece, so I'd love to see what you've got! :)

Cool beans.

Oh can't wait for your videos and hope that you are planning to upload them on DTube
There is a curation team looking out for DIY videos :)

I am planning to upload my next video to both dtube and YouTube provided that is not against dtube's policy.
