RE: A Couple Of Rocks With Nothing On Them

in #outofthinairlast year (edited)

She's got her two magic commands down, the one's where she won't move once directed and released.

All of the basic commands like walk, come, go, stay, and of course the little tricks, too. We're currently working on the heel. She just mastered walking on and off leash so the heel is a little challenging for her.

She's doing really good and I can hardly stand her in case you can't tell. She'll be tested in two weeks at the K-9 joint here for advanced placement which means I can then proceed with her to the bark / protect command (everything short of attack) which would then qualify her for airplane travel.

6n1/2 months and she just weighed in Saturday at 71 pounds. Man, thanks a lot for asking, appreciate it. I'm so proud of her.

That's so awesome, congratulations 🙌 You should definitely be proud of her :) Is she going to be certified as a K-9?

Man, I appreciate your interest. Thank you.

Here I go, again...

She's registered pedigree currently and will receive her basic K9 cert a week from tomorrow. Until she receives that, we can't proceed to advanced which is required for air travel, food establishments, things to that extent.

Advanced can be varied, owners choice. Agility, for example, search dogs, sniffing dogs, et cetera will qualify for advanced. We're going bark/bite officially since she excels naturally at agility.

No attack, though. Not any time soon at least and never 'official.' Once the dog's certified attack, all bets are off. No more travel or anything and they're essentially a weapon. Weapons belong under lock and key. Not interested.

So she'll be able to go pretty much anywhere you can??? That sounds perfect :)

Yeah, no need to be teaching her the attack methods. It could possibly get her hurt if anything actually happened, because she'd be more likely to go for clothing, arms, etc. Her natural instincts are better. If you're genuinely worried about that, you could spar with her in private as a game. Teach her (gently and in a fun way, of course) to avoid kicks, hits, and other things people might try. Much like the "catch me" game kids and dogs play together, but a little more intense.

You've done this before.

That's exactly it, we've been sparring like that since her baby teeth. Pura always said I'm too rough on her. We only accidentally yanked out two baby teeth in the first 3-4 months so I think she overreacted. = }

We still train like that. She's stellar at protecting her neck, back, and her front feet.

Hashtag Training.

Have you added sticks, long and short yet? She needs to know not to grab anything, or get poked with the short ones for sure...

Best part of doing it this way is you'll gain great control in intense situations, and she'll learn to keep herself safe without making her aggressive / dangerous to others. Unless someone hits her or does something else extremely stupid, of course.

That's part of the bite course. Your explanation sounds just as exciting. We're looking forward to it.

That one will go as far as a bite without release regardless the circumstances like sticks, knives, etc only in the event someone touches my wife like actually physically lays a hand on her inappropriately or aggressively. Have to be real specific with that training to prevent her from biting someone or something in error.

Bark is before that, another 7 day course. Then she'll be quote legal unquote.

You have dogs? Sorry if you've already said and I forgot. I do that regularly—forget. If so, what kind?

I had a golden retriever / malamute mix I trained just with the sparring part, so nobody could mistreat her or worse. Don't let the breed fool you, she had a natural temper if she felt she was wronged 😂 I got her at seven weeks old, and that night she tried to take my supper away forcefully 🤣🤣🤣 Stable and good with the public though, as she was properly socialized. Unnaturally smart too...
