Pennsif's Sustainability Curation Digest for MSP - week ending 17 January 2021

in #palnet3 years ago

It had been a good week until a calamity last night.

Stormy winds brought down the 80 foot sycamore tree right in front of our house.

Luckily it fell away from our home. But still caused plenty of damage.

It brought down a power cable, smashed through three fences, knocked down a gate and crushed a cement mixer.

The greenhouse escaped by a few feet and the goose got a big fright but survived okay.

It will all get fixed in due course, in the meantime there are still plenty of great sustainability related posts to read on Hive...

The Minnow Support Project has multiple curators that pick five posts from under-valued minnows each week to highlight through MSP3k. This way MSP and PAL can promote new writers and content creators on Hive, and in effect reward them for doing a superior job.

My aloe vera is going great guns at the moment - perfect for sunburn.

Mind you our weather has been odd too. unseasonably cold.

Sorry to hear about the tree. You may get wilder weather than us, but it's been unsettled here. Hope you can get things fixed soon. Is the wood any good for burning. We had some sycamores taken down when we built the house and people appeared with wheelbarrows to take the wood. We wanted a wood stove, but couldn't afford it at the time. Now there is talk of them being bad for your health. That's frustrating.

Good to have this series going again.

Hi Steve, got a tree guy coming tomorrow to help clear it - it's too big for me.

We are looking at going fully wood powered to get away from the oil central heating. It will require some investment but the government still offers RHI grants, and we have about 12 tons stored so far.

Thanks for mentioning @pennsif

Sorry to read about the tree falling down. Is there anyone who does carving nearby? They often look for sustainable wind fell trees?!

Hi Pumpkins, I think sycamore is good for wooden spoons and bowls and the like. There will be plenty available if anyone needs it.

Thanks for your support....
I am sorry that the tree falls infont of your house..
