More than 106 million people watched its finale, “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen,” which aired on CBS 35 years ago Wednesday. Advertising slots sold for $450,000, more than some slots for the 1983 Super Bow that year!
My father who was in the Army serving in Alaska during the war, watched the show religiously. It took in the horrors of war and combined it with a wit sarcasm, decency, and just the right amount of humor.
