Jeremy Lin: A story of endurance amidst hardship.

in #palnet5 years ago

I am a fan of Jeremy Lin.

For basketball-loving Asian-Americans, the story of Jeremy Lin remains one of those that simply never ended.

For the world, Jeremy Lin's tale ran dry after Carmelo Anthony kicked him out of New York so many years ago. But for those who have watched his development over all these years, the true adventure has always been in his humble endeavor to persevere amidst adversity.

Lin found himself on one team after another, casted aside and suffocated beneath the ambitions of yet one more superstar after another. If it wasn't the heavy ball-handling of James Harden, it was the I-need-to-be-worshipped dictatorship of Kobe.

And just when it appeared as if Lin would finally receive his chance to shine under the rebuilding hopes of the Brooklyn Nets, God had other plans for him.

It's no coincidence that Jeremy Lin experienced a season-ending injury on the first game of the season in which he was expected to be the star of the show. God uses the weak to reveal His power.

"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

And so was the case for the Christ-professing Lin, who's proven to be so fervent a servant in his proclamation of Jesus Christ in his off-court journey.

So I remain a fan of Jeremy Lin, so many years away from the Linsanity era.

Rejected in so many ways.
Accomplished in so brief a time.
Cut short before he could become.
Yet enduring throughout it all.

This past year ended with a championship ring despite sitting on a bench without much contribution at all. It was not exciting, but so very fitting for a man who's perseverance amidst struggle has always been known at face value.

I appreciated this post. Jeremy came out of nowhere and seemed to return to nowhere. His identity is not found in basketball, but rather Christ.

I needed this reminder.

On a different note, I see that you post some articles about sports. I know that there is a new interface called SportsTalk. It might be a good fit for you so that you can earn some more coins.

Thanks. Its definitely a life story that emboldens how Christ can reign in a life. And thanks for the reminder on sportstalk. I actually already tagged it to it.
