A PRISONER (CLARIFICATION)
Hello everyone, It's another day in the month of April! Yaaaaaay! Thanks be to God for His goodness & mercies in our lives. My joy can't be measured accurately knowing we are all alive to see this day. It's a gift and we are grateful Lord!
Quickly this day, I would like to shed more light on this topic Titled A Prisoner.
The topic and some of its content could be easily misinterpreted.
Let's take a look at the text, especially verse 1;
Ephesians 4:1, NIV: "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received."
Ephesians 4:1, ESV: "I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,"
Ephesians 4:1, KJV: "I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,"
Ephesians 4:1, NASB: "Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,"
Ephesians 4:1, NLT: "Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.
First point:
Paul was writing to the church from the inner walls of the prison that was why he regarded himself as "a prisoner of the Lord", like King James Version described.
Second point:
Though, I would not like to say we are prisoners for the Lord and held against our will because the bible makes us understand that, when we ask anything in Jesus' Name believing we have received, we shall have it (Matthew 21:22). So sometimes, the Lord can actually bring your will to come to fulfillment, if it aligns with His.
That being said, the point of this teaching is that being born-again should bring about a curtailed life style, a disciplined life. The old has gone, and the new has come. With salvation, comes surrendering! So you are telling Jesus..."oh! I've had enough driving round the same circle, now I need you(Jesus) to take over the driving seat and lead me to the destination you have for me".
Little wonder, He said, "the thoughts I have towards you(us), is of good, not evil, to bring us to an expected end."
Consequently, because two people can't handle the steering wheel, you have to let him take over completely. An attempt at you trying to join him in handling it, makes Him leave you to it.
So your actions, behavior, speech all should be disciplined to suit the One in the driving seat.
Come to think of it, have you ever been in a private vehicle you perhaps pleaded for a drop at a bus stop or junction?
Lol! You don't tell the driver how to drive, you are subjected to his driving skills for that moment.
You don't dictate to him whether to turn the music off or not, whether to put on the AC or not.
For the moment of the ride, you are subjected to his final decision.
But in actual fact, you can politely tell him to put on the AC as a result of the Heat. And he probably would consider your will and do that if it's suitable.
This is exactly what happens when Jesus takes over the driving seat. We then have the channel to communicate our will and desires to Him for final verdict.
Remain blessed like you've always been.
SHALOM!.
