is very clear to me that we as social beings must adapt to what our environment offers us, and that it is from this that we mature and take advantage of the good that there is in it. As you say at the end we have two options "Stand together blindly for greater survival, or risk the dangers of standing alone ..."

Indeed. We can adapt to the reality of what is happening and try to change it rather than go along with the negative, to survive it and do nothing about it, or go with the entrenched beliefs that what we are doing is perfectly fine and keep going along with it... :/
