RE: Suns Dogs 1-6-2019 3:30pm in Lower Michigan. A very rare occurrence.

This happens when the sun passes thru a cloud of ice crystals in the atmosphere, a sun dog is called a Parhelion in meteorology. It is an atomphric optical phenomenon that is a bright spot to one or both sides of the sun. Two sun dogs often flank the Sun within a 22 degree halo.
