PV's Log 149: A few days off at the barbecue

Hi Guys!


Life is life - sometimes it is good to take some break from internet, web, socials, and just chill a bit together with family and friends...

The beginning of May in Poland is an official opening of barbecue season - 1st of May is International Workers' Day, 2nd May is a working day in Poland but in the same time it is a National Flag Day, 3rd May is a Constitution Day - we are celebrating the first polish constitution from 1791.

All of these three days are well know as a long weekend - free of work, full of barbecues and other cultural events in all kind of places ;)...

I spent this time with my family in my family's garden in Mragowo / North-east Poland, 60 km from Olsztyn where I actually live.

Below You can see a series of shots how I am making a grill - from the beginning to the end.

So lets begin :

First of all I am making a little bonfire to produce natural ember which will start my grill full of charcoal in the most natural way.

I am taking the wooden parts and ember to the grill and fill it with the fresh and dry charcoal - this is much better way than using any fire starters which not only cost extra money but also smells really bad.

After that I am waiting until the first part is almost burned, all the charcoal should be covered with white ash - this is the point where I add a little bit of extra pieces of charcoal and I can start grilling...

Our favorite food to grill are the thick chunks of smoked bacon, marinated pork neck, blood sausage wrapped in aluminium foil and potato sausage - which can be totally unknown for most of You probably...

Potato sausage is a mix of potatoes, onion and meat, spiced really well and closed in a guts - like a traditional meat sausage but instead of meat, the base here are the potatoes, pork, onion and spices :). It is really delicious, spicy and is a great add to other grilled food.

Of course we had many other vegetable extras like a fresh veg salat, pickled cucumbers, pickled red paprika, kalamata olives, fresh pepperoni and tomatoes.

Bread and different sauces is a must of course - and some alcohol to get handle with all of these crazy unhealthy food ;).

It was a nice weekend - we also visit some friends in that time, weather could be better but it wasn't also the worst - sunny days with some wind and temperatures around 12-15 C.
On the full sun in a quiet spots - it was warm like in a summer.

So - that is how my last days past - write if You had any interesting adventures, travels, meetings last days.

I hope I will jump out to the forest during this week and show You how the nature looks like now!
