Vintage Photos - Goodwill Lot 1 (181-184)

I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up several batches of slides a while back from Goodwill and eBay. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. There are thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here mainly because I find them an interesting way to look back at the past.

I don't know a whole lot about the ultimate origins of this batch of slides other than they came from Goodwill. Like previous batches, these too often have a date stamped on them that I assume indicates when the film was developed and I believe in most cases should give approximate dating for the photograph itself. So far these seem like mostly vacation photos that were taken in the 1960s and 1970s. I've identified places in Italy, France, Mexico, and Hawaii so far.

All of the photos in this set were processed in June 1966 which places them in Italy based on previous sets with the same date.

The first photo appears to be from a kid's birthday party in a restaurant.

The second photo shows what looks like the same group of kids in the first photo standing outside of a hotel. Maybe the restaurant was inside the hotel.

Google images identified the third photo as the Dante Alighieri tomb in Ravenna. This is the tomb of the Dante that wrote Divine Comedy.

The last image is a photo of the Basilica of San Francesco in Ravenna. It was first built in 450 and this is the church where Dante's funeral was held in 1321. Dante's tomb (photo above) is also next to this church.

I love that you're continuing to scan and preserve these. Even if the family or families to whom they originally belonged don't realize it, it's so awesome to have these snapshots of history available for perusal. :)

It's fun to go through them. You never know what will turn up. Occasionally, I find something in the photo that lets me track down a little more history, Boat name, tail number of an airplane, business name, etc. Sometimes it's a complete guessing game with not even a date to go by.

I really like how we can see the evolution of photography through this time machine that you have right now. I wonder what our current photos will look like to modern people 50 years from now?
