Photos of Diamond Head Trail, Hawaii 2014

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

In Hawaii there are many trails and hikes that you can enjoy. And Diamond Head Trail is by far, the easiest hike that Hawaii has to offer. In fact, one part of the hike even has hand rails and steps you can use to help you to reach the top.

Why should you do it? Because this hike rewards your effort. From on top of Diamond Head, you will see one of the most spectacular views of all Waikiki. And you will have bragging rights that you hiked to the top of "Diamond Head", a dormant volcano which is featured in countless postcards, magazines, and photographs.

When I lived in Hawaii, I did this hike dozens of times and one time, I documented it with photos. Enjoy!

The beginning of the trail starts with a grassy area and a few park benches. There is even a small kiosk to buy bottled water.

Even though the tall green grass may look nice and inviting, I don't recommend you walk through it. It's home to rodents, centipedes, and possibly scorpions. (Hawaii doesn't have snakes)

The trail starts with a nice little path you can walk on.

The higher you go, the smaller people down below start to look.

Some of the more dangerous parts of this trail have a fence and a handrail. So hikers feel safe bringing their kids and their dogs.

These "hills" are actually edges of the now dormant volcano which people are hiking inside of.

From the back of Diamond Head you can see Kahala, Waialai, and the Palolo mountains.

Higher and higher we go.

At the very top is a "pillbox", a Coast Artillery observation station created by the military in the 1940s. It served as a lookout post for invaders. The pillbox is no longer used, and tourists regularly climb on top of it even though the sign reads KEEP OFF.
