🌙 Abandoned town of Doel

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Last summer I visited the abandoned town of Doel, that is supposed to be haunted. See, it got drained quite some years ago when the government wanted to expand the harbor.

I went there with some friends, wanting to see what all the fuss was about. This adventure ended up with us in the midst of a post-apocalyptic looking setting, where amazing artists shared their work on the old, left behind buildings.

We are all brothers underneath the skin.

The old asylum, daunting as ever.

If ever possible, I urge everyone to go and experience this place!

I'd love to see more. Please post 'em if you got 'em.

Thanks, that's always nice to hear! I think I maybe do, will dive in to the archieves for them..

Got 'em! (:

Amazing! Awesome pics, I'd love to go there, or to any other "haunted" place

It really did have a sense of being haunted to it, especially the old church and graveyard beside it!

The last time I was in Belgium was in 1971, I was getting ready to go on a 6 week, 9 country bicycle tour.

That's awesome! I once did one from The Netherlands to Spain when I was 16, which I already found pretty intense. Which countries did you end up crossing?

We did a loop- Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Germany, Netherlands, and back to Belgium. Here is an old post with some of the story. https://steemit.com/poetry/@beginningtoend/cycling-the-lepontine-alps
