Forever Rare
hemoglobin and repeating nucleic acids
through the bloom
we search for meaning
patterns that run
on more than coding
being plugged in
go ahead; be a cliché
deify an absent father
condemn
a chaotic mother
he died first
it was heroic
she stayed behind
dealt with the mess
everything offers what is most valuable
but there isn't a lot of note in the subtle
there isn't much flash in the sustained
how can she compete with the speed of light
as it bends the spacetime she tries to smooth
why must
she cast a pall
destruction
gives
simulation
meaning
if everything
lasts forever
than everything
becomes
mundane
nothing
will not be caught
it remains
forever rare
White Whale
The white whale, a ghost upon la Mar Corazon
Armed with harpoons, forged by Eros, honed by Mars
Lulling the swimmer to sleep with its song
Drowning with the immensity of its wake
Turning depths from calm to tempest to icy doldrums
Once felt, the white whale won’t be forgotten
Water-logged with longing or barnacled with hate
Alas, just like Ahab, you have no choice but to follow
A maritime will-o-wisp, shifting, submerging
A phantom on a silvery, sinking horizon
The white whale, glimpsed by those who can but gaze
Offered, but like a fist full of brine, forever out of reach

This is the power of the soft and subtle
The caterpillar to the butterfly
So the ego-bound to the master
The butterfly cannot take to the clouds
With heavy wings
It does not gain its colour
Without first knowing the black
You abort its heights
By grasping at its powdered flight
The butterfly has no interest in decay
Choosing flowers from which to nurse
The stench of decay fades given air
So it is with the ego, the internal foe
Stay still and remain gentle
In time the butterfly will land
