The old town of Kotor, surrounded by an impressive defensive wall, is particularly well preserved and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Between 1420 and 1797, Kotor and its surroundings depended on Venice. This Venetian influence is particularly noticeable in the structure and architecture of the city.
The bay of Kotor originate from a canyon filled with sea water. At both ends of the bay, the mountains of Lovcen and Orjen constitute a natural set delimiting the city and its bay.

Saint-George and Our-Lady-of-the-Reef are particularly interesting. The first is occupied by a Catholic church built in the 15th century; the second is occupied by the Abbey of St. George, a monastery built by the Benedictines in the ninth century and rebuilt in the sixteenth century.
