The Castle on top of an Extinct Volcano!

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Yes. You read that right. Edinburgh Castle stands upon the plug of an extinct volcano, which is estimated to have risen about 350 million years ago. How awesome is that? On a cold winter's day, the castle looks eerie and often sends shivers up your spine. But just remember, it also inspired Hogwarts, so there's always that if you're not into gory and macabre history.

This photo was snapped from the Starbucks window on Princes Street, Edinburgh City Centre.

Now, perhaps it's just me, but doesn't this Starbucks have the best view? I could sit here all day long. But if I want that particular seat by the window, I need to be sharp. There's often people stalking it from all corners of the shop, circling around the window like vultures, trying to snatch the seats first. The staff working here, when I last ventured inside, were all incredibly lovely. Kiba even had his own water bowl with his name on it! I often went here to work on my books and I would take Kiba with me. As you can imagine, he got a LOT of attention, but we're both used to it. Besides, Kiba loves the belly rubs.

Be sure to check this Starbucks out! On a winters, or even spring day, you won't be disappointed. And my iPhone pictures certainly do not do the views any justice.

If you're visiting Edinburgh, be sure to check out the enormous public garden across the road. Princes Street Gardens, the east side, has a phenomenal view of the castle! At just the right spot, you can lay back on the grass and all you see is a gorgeous castle perched on top of Castle Rock. Remind you of Game of Thrones, anyone? Yup. Me too. George R.R. Martin actually took quite a bit of his inspiration from Scottish history, particularly the "Red Wedding", which was a real event that took place in Edinburgh Castle. I know. I got goosebumps too just thinking about it.

So beautiful. We are just so fortunate to live in a city with so much history. Thank you for sharing these!

We are! Could never imagine any other city being my true "home".
