Saying Goodbye

I grew up with peacock feathers. They remind me of my parent's home who kept them in an antique vase.

I am almost thirty nine years old. I left Texas more than 20 years ago to come live with my Aunt in Oregon to seek my fortune. She also kept a vase of peacock feathers.

Since then I've moved all over the country and fell on many hardships. Peacocks and their feathers have always been special to me and symbolized stability.

Today I am visiting my aunt again and was shocked and sad when she asked me to throw her peacock feathers away. "They're They're old and falling to pieces."

Before I threw them away I took their picture in the yard to remember them.

Here they are on the trunk of a cherry tree she had cut down in the front yard. It used to have such pretty flowers.
