A new proposal can be seen on the list for this month (which ends in about 6 days), Its a governance proposal and only asks for 100 PIV (163USD-12/7/17) to cover the fees of making a successful proposal.
In summary the proposal aims to officially identify 3 types of governance that can be dealt with by the masternode owners and soon the entire PIVX community.
The 3 categories are: Manifesto, Treasury and Protocol. Click here for further information on what they mean in depth.
The main thing that this means is that PIVX governance model will be very fine tuned not only to be more inclusive but to handle different topics in different ways. Far from just being a tool to doll out funds for marketing purposes, this new step will make the very direction and implementation of PIVX controlled by the community. This is just another step in the right direction for a currency that doesnt want to experience the governance issues that are crippling and have caused forks in some of the Biggest crypto currencies ever. PIVX governance is future-proofing itself from poor consensus modelling.
The next test of this exciting new governance focused model will be the selection and development of the CDG, which now has various proposals in alpha stage for how Governance in PIVX should work, debate rages daily in the Governance channel on the official slack and it's very exciting to see PIVX spending so much time on Governance while they are not neglecting Privacy, Security or marketing.

I've become very interested in PIVX. But I have a what-if scenario... What if opening up governance in this way is bad for PIVX? Would developers be forced to walk away from it or could former governance models (such as masternode only voting - which has worked so far) be reasserted?
I guess, we would discuss the problems created by the new governance and fix it. Having masternode only Governance is not something ANY of the masternode owners voted for, so it's highly unlikely it'll be reversed. To only have a wealthy sub-section of the community able to make ALL the decisions is not something anyone in PIVX seems to support, so if Governance takes a wrong turn, then We'll steer it in the right direction again, thats what good governance is all about.
