I got a dionaea muscipula also known as a venus fly trap! I purchased it at a local farmers market from a farm that grows them!
Caring for my Venus Fly Trap
Luckily the woman who grows them gave me a packet with information on how to care for it! The dionaea muscipula loves full sunlight and moist soil. I will have to water it about everyday during the summer! During the winter it will die and I should only water it about once a month, but it will come back in the spring! I also have to use distilled water or rain water to water my venus fly trap.
Also if my plant doesn’t eat on its own I will have to catch flies and feed them myself to the plant. I haven’t seen it eat anything yet but one did close on its own! Usually they open back up in about a week after eating something. I am excited to keep learning more about my new plant!

I must buy that "flower" :)
Beautiful pictures ;)
It is very cool! And thanks!
Ah fun memories owning a Venus fly trap as a kid! I do remember that it only wanted distilled or rain water which made it challenging. Hopefully you can have a successful one that catches those pesky flies around! I don’t think mine did anything outside of us feeding it ourselves lol.
Thanks so much for sharing this and helping me relive a fun memory.
One has closed on its own already so hopefully it does catch its own flies haha and thank you!!
It is an interesting plant that kids learn in science. It will excite many of my students if they ever get to see one!

Years ago I bought a fly trap that was the pods that had a liquid in the bottom of it and the top would shut if a fly got trapped in the liquid. It was very difficult to keep alive and I hope you experience better luck than i did!
