Shelter in Place

in #pob11 months ago (edited)

Since I've moved to the Houston/Galveston, Texas, area, this is the first time we've had a Shelter in Place order. No, it's not because of COVID, it's because one of the refineries has reported some sort of issue, most likely a chemical released.

So, we are told to stay inside, turn off air conditioning, and wait until we get the "all clear." Every helicopter and every siren I hear makes me wonder if the workers are ok. I hope so. I know people who work there.

While I'm sitting inside in my home office doing work, it doesn't bother me, except I had to turn off the air conditioning. However, when I'm told I have to stay inside, for some reason I just feel like going outside, even though I normally wouldn't because I'm working.

LOL

Sort:

Geez, I do hope all is well.

I think being told we can't do something stirs up the rebel inside of us which makes us want to do that exact thing for no other reason than that.

They did issue an "all clear" so I turned on my air conditioning and now I don't care if I go outside or not. LOL

It was the Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery and the warning was issued because of a unit disruption that "caused a heavy smell of sulfur to fill the air." I also heard that everyone was accounted for and there were no injuries.

I did hear a lot of helicopters and sirens, which could have been related just as a precaution, but I'm glad there are no injuries.

Glad to hear all is well.

Same with me. I'm not a smoker. But every time I hear people nagging about not smoking it makes me want to go outside for a puff. I end up with pack of cigarettes I can't finish.

That's one thing I've never been tempted to do - smoke. I knew very few people who smoked as I was growing up, and anytime I was around them, I couldn't stand the smell (or the inability to breathe).

I grew up with smokers. They'd smoke in the car, in the house. And back in the day people could smoke in waiting rooms and restaurants. I never felt compelled to pick up the habit except when the nagging starts.
