Docker Image
Podping has been running with one brief interruption since May! Since it was turned on as a live beta it was updated only once a couple of weeks ago for Hard Fork 25 when the Beem Python library needed an update.
In the background, however, I'm working to package the Podping sending part of the server as a Docker Image. I'm getting a lot of help from @alecksgates because he's a professional modern Dev and I'm guy who learned to program on a ZX81 and stopped in 1997 when my PhD was handed in.
If you're desperate to see what's going on there, you can see this branch on Github.
Separate to getting this Docker in a fit state to release and put into production, I'm using it for another purpose.
3Speak is a Podcast host
This is sort of a premature announcement here, and I'll be writing a lot more on this in a few days, but the guys at @threespeak have made a really smart move.
Every show on 3speak now publishes an RSS feed. RSS is the driving force behind all of Podcasting. What this means is that every channel on 3speak is now a Podcast! I'm using the dev version of the Podping Docker host so as anyone publishes a new show on 3speak, it is sent to Podping and also submitted to the PodcastIndex for indexing. That last step allows 3speak shows to show up in the growing group of Podcasting 2.0 Apps which use the Index.
You can see the result of this by searching in one of these apps for "3speak" on @podfriend.

I am aware of a few problems with the feeds right now (hence not making a louder noise about this)
- The episode title links aren't working (this has been fixed in Dev but not deployed yet)
- We want to have different images for each episode
- Users should be able to set a Channel Title and Description instead of a generic one right now
- A lot of other configuration of settings in the RSS feeds.
But turning this on now simply works and has this effect: this is an online Podcasting 2.0 player called Curiocaster and 3speak videos now show up in here.
Podfriend is another Podcasting 2.0 App and has iPhone and Android versions in dev too.
Suddenly @threespeak videos will show up in Apps and websites everywhere. This is decentralisation in action!
DHF
Podping has kept all the payments from the DHF, converted quite a bit to Hive and powered up and the rest remains as HBD. I've been studying the need for an API server but there are new developments coming from @blocktrades and the Devs which may make running a number of API servers specifically for Podping much more viable.
Great job. Did a read through on this and will have to delve deeper into it. Seems like there is another post that I should make regarding this.
Perhaps we can do some linking and SEO to help get your ranking better when the full release of what is being developed is there.

This is super exciting and I am stoked so much I cant sit still!
I would like to make a suggestion. Instead of the rss feed being the user name. Perhaps @threespeak should have channels first. Then the rss feed attached to the channel. That way the user can do multiple channels (podcasts) and people dont have to subscribe to everything from that user.
I want users to be in control of the channel name but all that takes front end dev work. As soon as we can I want to change the channel name to something closer to the profile name but it all takes a bit of work.
@unklebonehead will be oh so happy about this, lol! It's perfect timing because I am about to start 2 different podcasts!

I been keeping an eye on Podping in the background for awhile now. The ground is about to start shaking for content creators. But its not just Podping!
sounds interesting. still not sure is everything under 3speak or everyone publishing a video on 3speak now has its "podcast"

In order to keep things organized on not have podcasts made available which weren't intended to be podcast.. is there a way to require people to tag Podcast, or podping in order to be RSSed and made into a podcast?
[I'm a newb.. so take this with a grain of salt.. and I don't know how programming works.]
We're going to need to do some front end work on 3speak but yes, that will be added. But in the end this is the equivalent of saying don't allow my stuff to be found. 3speak does not have any private videos, adding rss doesn't change who can find videos but does open up the options.
Thanks for the response Brian, and thanks for your work on podping.. podcasts are one of the things I enjoy the most about the internet, and it's frustrating when it's in video form only, and makes me unable to lock my phone.
You onow you can do that on threespeak, locking the phone and listening to the video. Just saying
