A Different Kind of Love - A Cow Poem

a different kind of love
as you stare out of the window
with eyes that glimmer
forlorn hidden behind words
that go silent
once the river dried up
a different kind of love
as you wander off
where has time gone
my love as the years
drip from your tongue

your eyes shimmer
as we walk past them
not the kind that reminds me
of previous lovers
a deeper and silent love
one beyond flesh
one beyond intellect
one beyond eros
your eyes shimmer
as we walk past them
and with childlike joy
a different kind of love
you light up
and touch them almost vicariously
as you become a different person
through which you experience
the joy of life

***

you walk through life
in search of calm
that you only feel
when you lay down
next to the grass-eating beast
a different kind of love
as you touch them
with the utmost tender care
your eyes light up
with a different kind of love

Postscriptum, or When Your Girlfriend Loves Cows

My girlfriend loves cows. This is an understatement. Her eyes light up differently when she sees them. She wants to get into the cow stalls and lay next to them.

And it is funny, the cows respond to this love and joy. They stick their heads out of their stalls and respond to her touch. It is really sweet and touching to witness. If I had the money, I would give this to her. Maybe one day. For now, we drive to various farms that allow the public to pet the cows.

I hope you enjoyed the poem. I tried to challenge my inner Charles Bukowski and write something about this everyday experience. It is such an inconsequential thing. The poem tries to grasp the love she feels when she walks past them. It is thus such an inconsequential moment but so intimate in its everydayness.

I hope that she likes the poem as well.

In any case, I hope you are doing well. Happy reading and stay well.

The poem is my own creation albeit inspired by the love my girlfriend feels for these grass puppies. The photographs are also my own, taken with my Nikon D300.
