unfurls like silk scarves
from the sleeves of the sun,
as mourning doves coo
the softest of lullabies
to the sleepy hush of dew.
unhindered by the clamor of clocks,
casting long and golden sighs
across kitchen tiles
and teacups, cold and half-full.
into pleasant dreams,
wispy clouds drift through
an afternoon’s tender breath.

stir us soon enough,
splashing in colors
too loud to comprehend,
big feelings will
walk in without knocking,
wearing mismatched shoes,
speaking in
riddles and metaphors.
tunes its heart to stillness,
and hums a hymn so ancient
only the trees remember,
and somehow understands.
chasing our ghosts
down winding lanes,
recalling lost laughs,
wishes long forgotten,
missing the scents
of childhood summers,
fall under serendipity’s spell,
eventually we’ll bump into grace,
stumble into wonder
with grass-stained knees,
a lovestruck smile on our faces,
hair forever tousled in the wind
but for now we will relish
what remains of
this gloriously lazy day.
Let’s Keep In Touch

Beautiful poem......
It's the existential dance between being and becoming, we seek a pause yet we are perpetually drawn into the flux of time.
Our existence is a confrontation between the present and the temporality of the present.
"Big feelings" and "chasing ghosts"-- are the real complexity of our life hunted by memory and desire.
The best part of this poem for me is the "humble spirit", I would relate it to Taoism where I would embrace stillness to harmonize with the deeper sense of this universe and raise the level of my consciousness.
Thank you Sir.
Thank you, Milaan!

Poetry can be found in everything! In the everyday, in those hours that yawn as time passes. I can almost imagine those flashes of light floating in the air, the colors of things standing still, as I read your poem. I really felt a lot of peace while reading. A hug 🫂
I'm glad this poem transported you! Thank you Nancy. I hope the week is going well!
Beautiful poem.
Thanks!

The imagery of the morning revealing like silk scarves is just so lively and calming.
Thank you!
It's an elegant poem you've penned. You used strong imagery throughout which helps communicate you message to the reader effectively. I especially love how you described the dawning of a beautiful day in the first lines, it was hypnotic. Happy weekend my friend.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Can't beat a lazy day hiding from big feelings.
Favourite image/lines:
Maybe would have omitted 'kitchen'
'across tiles and teacups
luke warm and half full'
But that's just me liking a play.
I do like how you changed that stanza—it flows better. When I was writing it I was imagining black & white linoleum kitchen tiles though.
Ah, that makes a difference doesn't it, as I imagined the ceramic of cups and tiles! Glad you liked it. I love poem riffing on Hive.
Sometimes the best moments happen when we're not even trying. Just had one of those perfect lazy afternoons myself, messy hair, grass stains and all
We all need more of those moments! : )
indeed we do 🙏
