On a patio table,
Maples swaying
To a different beat;
The garden lush
And greedily drinking,
Droplets bringing
Relief from heat.
The sky gray
Above the rooftops,
Reminds me
Of another day,
When sun and rain
Were hard competing
To drench, then repent
And dry us again.
I go back to the cottage
And waves beyond,
The wind-stepped water
In squalls by the pond,
All day long
One storm then another,
As I take your hands
Like gentle flowers
And we blossom again
Into trembling lovers.
