This is my first post and I would love to share with you all one of my pieces that popped back up in my facebook newsfeed from many moons ago. I wrote this for an assignment in my history class and though I do not remember exactly but I am pretty sure I received a good grade because my history teacher helped me then to publish it in a educational magazine for teens that our library subscribed to every month. Well anyways, hope you enjoy!
P.s - I will have to ask my mother for a copy of the magazine it was featured in so I can provide a picture. This was posted in 2005. Image courtesy of https://blog.ted.com/martin-luther-king-jr-as-leader-a-tedtalks-playlist/
Martin Luther King Jr.
No man has ever stood as tall
as this man who fought for equality for all.
A man who spoke of peace and dreams.
A man who preached about what freedom means.
A man who taught others to love and understand,
through peaceful protests, in hopes to rid injustice in our land.
His words reached out to lead and inspire
followers who banded together to dampen this prejudice fire.
His message has been passed throughout the nations,
stating that we are all God's creations.
We are all different, it's true, as you can see,
but we are all equal and deserve to be free.
He was not a man filled with anger or resent.
Nor a man who raised a fist in ill intent.
But a man who raised his hand, not in hate.
A man who would clearly and proudly state.
Brothers and sisters is what God hath make us
and no man of any race can take, make, or break us.
Let this man's dream stay alive and not lost,
for he fought for others, no matter the cost.
So I ask all of you, to take time out today
to remember the powerful words he did say.
And to never judge on skin color or tone,
but to look at what's on the inside alone.
We are all different, it's true, as you can see,
but we are all equal and deserve to be free.
