Change Gonna Come

With so much commotion in the world today, change is gonna come. Specifically, in America, we are faced with a plethora of challenges today including

• pandemic which continues to challenge our ability to respond
• economic strife this disease has brought the country
• racial tensions surfaced by the brutal death of George Floyd
• political conflicted which seeps throughout our political and social institutions
• challenging standard democratic political norms

All of which leads us towards a cataclysmic moment of change- at least potentially.

This could be for better or worse. I envision two paths America can go down and frankly, as the global leader (albeit declining), the path is chosen may pave the way for the world to follow suit.

Change for the Better

For example, I could see a constitutional crisis leading to a 21st-century constitutional convention to update our more nad more dated current constitution.

If done in a profoundly delicate manner, this could greatly benefit the country which has a constitution from when we rode horses and a gun could fire one bullet in a minute and today we have worldwide internet and weapons that can be launched with the push of a button from across the world.

Change for the Worse

I could also envision a path far less appealing. A path conflating with conflict with a political revolution which can be a deadly mistake.

This type of path doesn't readily offer me visions of a proper constitutional convention. Instead, I picture one tainted by identity politics. One that maybe even leaving America and our political standards weaker after the horrible conflict ends than better- simply because it was built upon a negative foundation.

The Difference is Our Choice

Truly, I believe the heart and soul of our country will determine which path we go down. I suspect we will see aspects of society support one path or another more frequently over the coming weeks, months, and potentially years.

This has already begun to happen as we see events such as those arrested in the plot to kidnap the Michigan Governor.

These types of anti-democratic behavior have to be snuffed out!

At every level, this type of behavior has to be rejected. As indidivuals, as communities, and as intuitions.

Furthermore, we should use these hard times to build something better instead of tearing things down.
