Patrick Stewart Cares More About Politics than Star Trek

For those that haven't been following along, CBS has recently tried a few new Star Trek series which are exclusive to its streaming service. They're all bad and largely panned by the fan base, but the most recent, Star Trek: Picard is the worst.

I won't give away any spoilers in this article in the off chance someone might actually care, but suffice to say it did things with Picard's character that never should have been done.

When Patrick Stewart started the series he knew what he was getting into. The show isn't Star Trek at all. It has some familiar characters, some familiar names, but it's pure putrid politics through and through. Patrick Stewart knew this. He read the scripts, and yet he still chose to do it.

This isn't Star Trek that brings people together as Star Trek once did, this is Star Trek that pushes people apart. Stewart had to know that this series would help to ruin Star Trek, and especially the character of Picard, but he chose to do it because like most of Hollywood, for him politics is more important than anything else. It's more important than story, it's more important than fans, it's even more important than money. Pushing a political agenda is the most important thing.

There have been some rumors that Stewart won't return for the second season of Picard and some might point to that as him wising up to the need to give the fans, the customers, what they want, but if that's truly how he felt, he wouldn't have played the role in the first place.
