Today is a happy day for most Alaskans. $1600 direct deposit or check this year as long as a person has been living in the State all year and did not go to jail they qualify for the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend.
The Alaska Permanent Fund was created in 1976 by the people of Alaska. The PFD was intended to be a way to save a portion of the state’s oil revenues for future generations. It uses oil profits to make investments in many different things including; bonds, stocks, real estate, infrastructure, and private entities. The returns on these investments are used to grow and finance the Fund. Since 1983, the Alaska PFD Division has distributed a portion of the profits to the people of Alaska in the form of a dividend that they get yearly.
The truth about this "free" money we get is every year is most Alaskans use it to prepare for winter. Sure there are the people who buy giant screen tvs and can't buy themselves heating fuel the rest of the year.... those kind of idiots are in all towns in all States. Other than preparing for winter if your family is well prepared and ahead this year the PFD might be used for a vacation. Lucky bastards ;)
So like most people here in Alaska I will be fighting my way thru costco to stock up on supplies. I will be buying heating oil and car parts. I will be prepping for a long cold winter. PFDs make that easier!
