Don't forget to PREP for your Pets!

in #prepping7 years ago

I've noticed not a lot of Preppers talk about prepping for pets and that could be because they don't have any. Honestly, I didn't think about it the first few months I had Charlie.

It never crossed my mind until I was watching a YouTube video by PrepperNurse1. He has cats and he was saying how he stores food for them. I couldn't believe I'd never thought of this for Charlie.

So I immediately went to Coupons.com and printed off 2 Puppy Chow coupons and headed to Target. I chose Target because there puppy chow was already on sale, plus 20% off with Target Cartwheel, AND I can use coupons with it. So I saved a lot of money.

I now ALWAYS have at least 1 year food supply for him plus I store can dog food that can last several years. I also store an extra 20lb of rice just for him every year. He loves rice and I can make homesmade dog food with can chicken, rice, and some veggies if I have to.

Be sure to stock up on water, treats, flea & tick meds, heartworm meds, and put back a chew toy or two.

Charlie is a part of our family and he's my sweet baby boy so I make sure he is definitely taken care now and in a SHTF situation!

That's such a good idea. Can't forget the little fur babies💕

Yes, I have always stocked up for my pets. I currently have about 6 months supply on hand but that is because I am rotating out older stock and using some of it up to replace with new fresh inventory. Our pets truly are like our babies!!

Yes they are! Charlie is my angel! Absolutely rotate! I don't think I mentioned that. My stepson always teases me and says that I prepare more for Charlie than him. 😂😂 I told him it's because Charlie's a baby and he's 18. There's a big difference 😂

Resteeming this tonight.

Thank you 🐶🤗

Great post mylilhomestead. Keep up the good work. We can't forget about our furry friends.

Awesome post. Well anyone that knows me and know my blog has seen I'm ready for most anything. I agree we cannot forget about our pets. I have several hundred cans of dog food I keep rotated out to feed my 3 dogs. Its a great post and something people just tend to overlook. Thanks for posting! :)

Very true @mylihomestead, I'm a vet and i'm posting tips about pet's health in steemit my objective here is to inform ownners how to do well with his pets, if you're interested you could read my post and follow.

I just followed you. Thank you!

This is a great topic and you provided solid points to learn from. If I had pets, I would heed your advice. Thanks for sharing :)

@aspieprepper made a pretty good post about prepping for pets a few days ago too! It's honestly not something I had thought about before! We're slowly working up to prepping for everyone around here. Need a bit more cash... Haha. C'mooooon Steemit! haha

O really? I'll have to go back and look for his post. Definitely look into coupons, Ibotta, Checkout51, I use all those to save and get money back. I'll do a post about Ibotta. Look for it soon 👍🏻

we're going to look into home canning homemade pet food :)

Well now that's an idea! Using real meat and stuff? Man, my dog can't deal with too much protein. Makes him poo... a lot.

Yes! We eventually plan to which them to a raw diet so we will have prepared meals in the freezer and then I want to can some for prepping purposes. Obviously we will also keep some dry food just because of the long shelf life but I'm not happy about the quality :/ I feel like when I first started looking into raw diets that was something I heard sometimes happens until their bodies get used to processing their natural food source. Might be worth researching :)
