Prepping 101 - Prepare For The Worst And Hope For The Best

in #prepping7 years ago (edited)

Are preppers paranoid conspiracy theorists who stock guns and bullets for the zombie apocalypse? They must wear hats made of aluminum foil to keep the aliens from reading their minds, right?

All jokes aside, most of that stuff about preppers is far from the truth, however I would be irresponsible by denying that there might be an extremely small percentage who could be engaging in such activities and behavior.

From the time I was a small lad, I was taught to always be prepared. Being born in 1940 in a very small town in northern Ontario the necessary items we purchased if there was money to do so, however mostly our main food was fish, rabbits, deer, moose, bush chickens, etc, most people had gardens, bartering was prevalent. Prepping as they now call it and bushcrafting was a way of life, a very good way of life might I add. I am always amazed and also amused when I watch these things on yt. It's as if it is a new discovery, for most of this new generation I suppose that it is. However the percentage of those who will perish should there be a shtf is very frightful. I have often wondered what makes a play station gizmo taste like chicken, catsup or mustard.

That's an amazing perspective @billytwohearts. I like the fact that you have real life experience living a "prepper" lifestyle. I agree with everything you said about the new generation. That was funny about the play station gizmo. Thanks for the follow, upvote and resteem! It is sincerely appreciated.

I think you're title sums it up perfectly. You always hope for the best, but you have to prepare for the worst. If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. None of us no what tomorrow brings, but we live in a very crazy world today, nothing is ever possible until it happens. We all owe it to our families to be prepared.

Heck yeah. You are always on point. Thanks for your input!

Awesome! Yes agreed! I think a lot of people get being prepared and preppers mixed up. There are a lot of nuts out there that think they will hide in a bunker and come out when it's all clear. People better read their Bibles and know what really happens. People get this idea they are going to come out and repopulate the earth and everything will be ok for them. That's just not going to be the case.
I myself am a prepper and I'm prepared for the worst but not going to hide in a hole or under a rock. We need to be a light in this world right up until its over for us. We can't bring people to Christ when we are hiding and scared for ourselves. Being prepared is a smart thing. The world is getting worse every day and to just not be ready at all is nuts. The better equipped I am, the longer I live, the more I can reach people about the love of Christ, the better off i'll be. Be ready, be prepared and always keep looking up for Jesus is coming soon!

Ok cool. You are very welcome and thanks for everything that you do! I will check back from time to time to see when you are back in the game :)

I'm a prepper but my main two motivators are severe storms and job loss. Being in a rural area power loss is common and during the last big hurricane this area had no power for 3.5 weeks.

Job loss. I got laid off in 2009 and thankfully we had an emergency fund and it wasn't much of an issue. I did stress about the whole ordeal though. If we have life's necessities stored up and no new job was to be had then we could survive for a good amount of time.

EMP. Now here is your fringe reason. I do think that the way to hit America and got it hard is to take our power away. This could be done from a ballistic missle overseas or even a container ship in the gulf of Mexico. If an emergency we're to go off then a large portion of the country would come to a grinding hault.

Thanks for sharing your motivators and experiences. EMP is a serious threat whether from missiles or a solar flare. To me that's the worst case scenario!
