How your decision could affect others

She stretched her hand towards him. In her palm was a half bitten fruit, fresh, succulent and juicy.

"Take it", said the woman. "It tastes good." The man hesitated for a good reason. That fruit came from the special tree at the center of the garden. It was the forbidden fruit of the forbidden tree, and Adam knew that very well. What he didn't know very well was whether he should take the fruit from the woman and eat it or not.

It was his decision, a decision of a lifetime, a decision that would chart the destiny of a universe with its humanity for generations to come. The warning about the forbidden fruit in the woman's hand was unambiguous, clear as crystal.

"You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die".
The words came to Adam without confusion. Yet Adam must have thought, how does it matter? Eve has already eaten the fruit and here she is, alive and kicking. No, there couldn't be any death in this. The death warning may only be symbolic.
Symbolic? Wrong, Adam! There is a cemetery in every city, town, village, or hamlet to remind us that the day he ate of the fruit of that tree he died, so do his ancestors today.

Or perhaps Adam was right! There was something symbolic about that death. The disobedience brought symbolic death, a separation from the Creator. Yet death being symbolic is worse than what the mortuary and cemetery reminds us of. To be separated from the Creator is death of the worst sort. Did Adam know that his decision would be consequential, any more than it would be if he had only gone down to the River Tigris to have a bath? But it was!

Just a simple decision it seemed to him, just a single bite to please the woman and no more. So, in a split moment while eternity stood still and angels held their breath, Adam made his decision. He must have received the fruit from the woman, taken a mouthful bite, and returned the remaining to her.

That was it! What seemed like a small decision that took place under a tree triggered off a series of eternal consequences. With his eyes open, staring at his wife in the garden, Adam made a fatal decision.

Not long after that, the first murder was committed by their very first offspring, followed by a series of other atrocities against humanity down the centuries. We must never forget this, that although Adam and Eve made that fatal decision which has affected us, we are responsible for our own individual actions. However, on that day Adam, along with his offspring, died, got separated from the Creator, and thus plunged into sinful darkness, to the extent that the earth itself groans for redemption.

If one false decision is capable of spelling out eternal doom and dire consequences, how cautious need we be when it comes to making decisions!

Adam's and Eve's story, is a classic story of our inheritance, but as you so aptly put it, even today as in Adam's and Eve's time, we each have a "will" given to us by God to choose what is right from wrong, and in making that choice, we have the "Conscience", which for me is "the voice of God" to guide us.

You're 100% right brother. we each have a "will" given to us by God to choose what is fright from wrong.
