Weekly Zekely - A Pretty Big September!

Stretching summer through the end of September sure has screwed with my schedule but worth it for the fun. What does a fun September in these parts look like? Join me and lets see!

It all started Labour Day long weekend with a trip to MAGfest for my favourite music festival of the year. Our band has played this for a decade now and the highlight for me this year wasn't playing myself. It was watching the next generation get up on stage and perform songs together. Performing is amazing but not as good as inspiring others to learn to love playing music too.

Labourday was not the only outdoor adventure to celebrate the last days of summer and nice weather. Just last weekend, we managed to break away for a bro weekend at the cottage. Just food, friends, beer, and a whole bunch of relaxing in the fresh air at the lake up north.

It wouldn't be complete without a nightly camp fire. Clear nights with almost a full moon to light the night sky. Talk about a perfect end to summer!

Gardening

The garden starts to thin out a little at the end of the growing season. One of my garden highlights is to wait til the hot peppers turn red so we can harvest them. These habaneros are plenty hot and are currently marinating in a hot sauce that will spice up dishes all winter long.

Peppers were not the only thing harvested as we are swimming in tomatoes of all sorts too. Seriously there is no better tomato than one fresh from the back yard. Just have to make sure we don't mistake the Carolina Reaper peppers in that mix with something you might like to snack on.

Work

IMG_6841.jpg

Despite all of the fun, September was a banger in the work category. Not only did we bring on a couple new clients, we also took on an additional part time job with a partner who was shipping out their biggest order of promotional material for the year. In the end, I estimate we assembled and shipped over 1000 boxes and were definitely glad to be done.

This may not look like work but it was the end result of 4 months worth of promotion for a live event. We managed to advertise a comedy show well enough to pack hundreds of people into one of the biggest theatres in town for a fun raising event. Hilarious show to a packed house!

This may also not look like work but it is. Revival House is a client of ours and I stop by occasionally to take pictures for social media promotion. This time of year, the garden is just popping and those posts seem to be the most popular.

Beer!

IMG_6725 (1).JPG

The summer was a little hit or miss on the brewing side of things with vacations and such. We got back to it in September with batches of Amber, Cream Ale, Golden Ale and NEIPA brewed right from grains. Fresh beer of your own recipe with no preservatives on tap is some kinda special!

You can't fight back Autumn forever and even the beer seems to conspire against us. This imperial pumpkin ale rocks a fall theme and weighs in at 10% ABV. I am no fan of pumpkin but actually don't mind pumpkin ales I have had lately. This one actually tastes more like christmas fruit cake and I wouldn't recommend having more than one in a session.

Dog Days of Fall

IMG_6836.jpg

One place where you can escape daily and completely enjoy a seasonably warm day is at the dog park. What a wonderful summer of warm weather, few mosquitos, and walks with the little guy.

He really couldn't care less if it was a hot summer day or a cold and blustery winter evening. Escaping to the park every day is about his favourite thing and his happiness is contagious.

Hello October!

The sun has indeed set on a fantastic, fun and warm September. Getting a bonus month of unofficial summer sure is a worthwhile pastime and the weather really cooperated. This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and I have one last weekend with family up at the cottage. I am ready to surrender the summer to the fall but will have plenty of autumn adventure to share before winter sets in.

Thanks for checking in & sharing my last month of summer!

Does it feel like Fall or Spring where you are?

Sort:

It looks like you've been busy! The end of summer is that way for us too, you begin to realize how quickly it's coming to an end. It's very much feeling like Fall here in Minnesota. We had our first frost warning yesterday and the colors are really starting to show.

Ah having spent some time in MSP and driving south from the airport, I can almost picture it. I think we are on the same latitude and you guys just send the weather east to us.

Pups are adorable and as you say they don't give a shit about the weather, just take me out Dad!
Never had a pumpkin beer but at 10% I don't reckon I would drink too many lol
That was a great September and those habaneros look awesome...

We have them fermenting into a paste/relish and a hot sauce. Hopefully hot and delicious.

Oh now they sound delicious already!

It seems like you had an amazing September full of music and friendship.

I try to make that every month!

seems like you had a good september, pretty busy i would say but full of satisfactions

here it feels like bloody fall since almost a month, its super cold in the early morning, trees are losing leaves already

Up until yesterday, we have had high temperatures on the mid 20s (75-80 in freedom units) which is a little warm.

Last night though, frost and the fall weather is upon us too. Makes for some nice colours.

the red trees mixed with the green make the forest look pretty cool
