RE: Psychology Addict # 44 | Envy: An Unfortunate Facet of Human Nature

in #psychology6 years ago

Envy has been universal throughout human history, but in our culture an excessive emphasis is placed on the value of the human being based on what he has and not on what he is, in that sense a person is worth much if he has a lot, which makes our self-esteem depend on what we have: money, beauty, social status, possessions, titles, success, power. It is not strange that envy and greed reinforce each other, since our own value as people depends on what we have. Unconditional acceptance, which originates from being considered valuable for what we are and not for what we have, is largely absent in our culture.
