“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.” — Japanese Proverb

Thoughts on Today’s Quote

Dreams can be a wonderful thing to behold. They tell us where we want to go. If they are strong enough, they can tell us how we envision the goal we have in mind. The picture can be so vivid we can almost feel like it is already happening.

Dreams don’t provide a path to the goal. They don’t envision the twists and turns. Or the myriad of little steps we have to take before we can leap across the threshold of the end result.

In order for the dream to become real, we need to develop a vision.

The vision answers the questions about how to get to the dream result.

You need to know your starting point. You need to know who and where you are today.

You need to know the target point. Where and who you want to be when you arrive there.

You need to know who to surround yourself with in order to arrive at the target point. The people who can help you and who you can help get to their target points. You don’t need people around you who don’t support where you are going, they will make you doubt yourself.

You need to determine what you need in order to get to your goal.

You need to know, or at least start to anticipate, the steps you need to take to get to that target point. You might get some steps wrong and have to retrace and take different ones but you need to start somewhere.

You need to chart your tentative timeline for reaching that goal.

You need to know why you want to reach the dreamed for goal. You need to know the purpose of the journey.

MOST IMPORTANTLY — you need to take action. Without action the rest of the work is just planning without purpose. It’s time wasting. It just expands on the daydreams of the goal.

So, what if you just want to get to where you are going and to heck with all that planning stuff?

Ever get into a field with high plants all around and no landmarks in sight?

Or in the middle of the dessert and all you can see is sand for miles?

Or even out on the ocean without land in sight?

It’s disorienting. You don’t know for sure which way to turn. If you just pick a direction and head there, you are never sure if the direction is right or if you will ever arrive.

In other words, that journey just became a nightmare. Action without vision is a nightmare.

To get to our goals in life, we need to dream what they will look like, plan the path and take action.

What action have you taken toward your goal(s)?

Interesting! Yes, having a starting point and goal is a good though as well as points along the way to aim for. Without that vision, things will definitely not go well. I usually try to set a goal for the day. When I don't, I don't accomplish much, but when I get up with a set plan, my day is super productive. Thanks for the post!

i find when I have a plan for the day that interruptions don't throw me off.. i can go right back to where i was on the plan

True! If I have a plan, I won't spend all day on steemit either. ;)
