MY FIRST SCAR FROM RACISM

in #racism7 years ago

The idea that you are superior to someone based on skin color or tribe is an abomination. Everyone has witnessed racism, whether directly or indirectly. The idea of racism is like a cancerous cell that spreads throughout the world, infecting the unity between humans. No one is born -racist, one can only learn to be one.

It's sad to see people given preference just because of skin color while others are treated like trash. Some people live in fear because of this. Over the last couple of years, we have heard of numerous tragic events on racism.

Here's a picture showing the difference between BLACK, WHITE, GAY, STRAIGHT, RELIGIOUS, ATHIEST AND YOU

Did you spot the difference?? I guess not

That's because there are no differences and we have to stop creating bridges and rifts between ourselves.

MY FIRST SCAR FROM RACISM

It hapened when I was in elementary school abroad ( I won't name the country). I was still new and just getting sorted. Gaining new friends, learning new things and just adjusting. We just moved to the country and I was so young. It was Visiting day, where parents would come and assess their children's progress at school. And my dad was running late. Just myself and a few students where left. A kid next to me who I barely talked to was making a fuss. Apparently, he didn't want to eat the food that his mom was feeding him. She was loosing her patience. And from nowhere she pointed at me and said "If you don't eat your food that monster would eat it". We weren't much in the class but I know she didn't just randomly point at me.It wasn't a coincidence. I was the only black kid. I didn't fully understand the meaning But I felt hurt. It pained me to be singled out and called a monster. I felt inferior to the other kid. I just felt wronged.

A few years later, I finally understood that incident to be RACISM. And I always felt Scarred. I don't think it ever made a permament damage in me nor did it affect my way of thinking. It just makes me feel sad whenever I think about it.

Here are some quotes by Nelson Mandela I hope you appreciate

"During my lifetime, I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for. But, my lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

--April 1964

"Let the strivings of us all prove Martin Luther King Jr. to have been correct, when he said that humanity can no longer be tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war. Let the efforts of us all prove that he was not a mere dreamer when he spoke of the beauty of genuine brotherhood and peace being more precious than diamonds or silver or gold. Let a new age dawn."

--December 1993

"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
