Today is a "Special" day in Sweden
and working with kids like I do
in preeschool we do this...
We celebrate this day by wearing
different colors on our socks.
Rock the socks!
In Sweden and some other countries, World Down Syndrome Day is
celebrated by Rocking the
Socks. 🧦
By wearing different socks on March
21, you participate in the special celebration of the day and show
that you stand up for the equal
value and rights of all people.
And we do this every year altho
the kids love wearing different
socks other days to 😁 lol
PAINTING SOCKS!
They painted and drew some socks
with whatever shape and patterns
they could think of making.
This one was pretty cool and the
boy painting it was like...
I didn't drew the socks I'm wearing
Today, but ones I like instead.
We also watched a movie about a
boy named Max, he explains
what down syndrome is.
It is a genetic disorder caused by
the presence of all or part of a
third copy of chromosome 21
A simpel but well aducated movie
that gives the kids a idea of what
it means to be different.
We have some kids at our preeschool
with special needs and our kids
knows and have a incredleble
acceptance for them.
We are all friends and being different
is what makes us unique ❤️
Then we ended the day with the
Rock the socks song 😜 lol
And when you heard it once it is impossible to get it out of your
head 🙈 OMG..
Rock... Rock the socks!!
Stop combine, dare to mix and
go a little crazy.. Ooohhh 😁
So it was a fun and educating day 😉👍

other and acts with kids
with special needs.

This is so sweet! I'm so glad to hear that the kids are accepting of their special needs classmates. Over here a lot of the special needs kids get put in separate classrooms (or at least, they did when I was a kid). I'm glad that they get to participate in regular classes over there. It seems like the only way that non-special needs kids can have a chance to see how the similarities are more important than the differences!

It's a thing here too in Spain! Last year the kids were requested to come with non matching socks as well as yesterday. Sadly, they didn't do too much about it further this year where they at least took a funny picture with all the mismatched socks last year.
It's good they have these type of initiatives to educate the children about down syndrome and this is a fun way for them to bring awareness..

We celebrated at my school. I have 3 kids with Down's Syndrome in my classroom. They are loving, silly, and a pleasure to work with.

It is a Nice custom and even if its not many who heard of it, we have had that here for many years 😉
And working in preeschool it is more awareness and fun with the kids with ROCKING our socks in all kinds of colors 😁 lol
Other People here usually just wear different colors of their socks but thats it.

It's a great thing to do. People with Down's Syndrome are some of the sweetest and kind people you will ever meet despite their disability. Teaching kids early that being different is OK is huge, growing up I had exposure to mentally challenged kids and it really changes how you see them. Thanks for the awesome post!
