Violonist - ice sculpture

in #sculpture3 years ago

Carving ice above or close to 0 Celsius really sucks. Well, this sculpture was made on such a day. Your tools make a lot of snow and ice chips that stick everywhere and melt on you, making you damp and freezing. I much prefer a nice below 15 Celsius with crisp and dry air. Your sharp tool glides on the ice and leaves a clean cut. Your work is much easier to clean and dry gloves mean warm gloves.

Anyway, this sculpture represents a traditional french-canadian violin player. We call them "violoneux" instead of "violonist" to evoke a more folkloric, spontaneous, and amateur style of musician as opposed to a classically trained one, although some could be real virtuoso.
