I love music, and I love introducing people to music they don't know. How could I resist a challenge by @slobberchops
The Rules:
- Link FIVE singles from the 1970’s and let us know why they are memorable to you.
- One from 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974.
- Make sure they are not too obscure, we are trying to teach the younger readers what was good, not about old ‘B-sides’.
- State the year of release, we are trying to educate people!
- Use the tag #seventieschallenge
- Add a Wikipedia link to each song so the uneducated can learn a little about the song. If there isn’t one available, then choose something a little more popular.
1970
Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Waters
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_over_Troubled_Water_(song)
From the album by the same name, this was a huge hit. It's a huge song.
1971
The Doors - Riders on the Storm
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riders_on_the_Storm
Turn on your lava lamp or your blacklight and groove to the surf.
1972
Timmy Thomas - Why Can't We Live Together
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why_Can't_We_Live_Together
A Leslie organ a drum machine, and Timmy Thomas' haunting vocals deliver this message.
1973
Dr John - Right Place, Wrong Time
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_Place,Wrong_Time(song)
Many regard "In the Right Place" as Dr John's best album. I don't make that distinction, they are all great.
1974
Elton John - Bennie and the Jets
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bennie_and_the_Jets
Not Mr John's best song, perhaps, but it's incredibly dynamic. I defy anyone to stay still while listening to Bennie and the Jets. It starts with a tapping finger - yes, just like that. Soon your whole body will be wriggling.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Great selection @catweasel. Its funny how you can just read the title of the song and it starts playing in your head, wierd right? Ah the seventies, such memories ;)
Hadn't heard that Dr John song before. Funky! My parents had the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, even though they were into classical music. I think that was probably the only non-classical album they ever bought, apart from "20 Fantastic Hits by the Original Artists". Me and my sister knew all the words to all the songs on both albums. Good choices.
It's epic but I have heard it far too many times. I need a 20 year break from this one to get my need to listen to return.
Well I definitely hadn't heard of this one yet: Dr John - Right Place, Wrong Time
Gotta check some of his other stuff out, really liked this song! I'd say you were successful with introducing me to some new music :)
What a Wonderful selection all songs in my 70s playlist :)
That's a really good 5. Really a good representation of the first half of the decade,
I gotta tell you though, I'm like slobberchops. I've heard Bridge so many times I'm still not ready:)
Love all those! They are on my "moldies" list. :))
I've not got the energy/time to link mine. And I don't know the years so would have to research. In 2 weeks the worst of the farm chores will be done, and I hope to be able to participate and post more.
