"She is giving him a blow job. Why? Because this nice guy came to rescue when her car broke down!" that's how Erika Lust describes cliche porn nowadays.
Erika Lust is one of my idols. She is a famous Swedish erotic film director, screenwriter and producer. Lust has been instrumental in promoting the aims of the feminist pornography movement. Nowadays she has her own production in Barcelona (what a wonderful choice of the city! Actually Barcelona is my favorite city in the world).
I will share with you a Vienna TED talks with Erika, so you can enjoy her brilliant intelligence and sense of humor.
I simply love studying statistic on Porn Hub website. Because looking at this numbers you can easily say for whom this industry is working. For example in Austria only 25% of visitors are women. Here is a screenshot for you...
And it becomes even more interesting when you check out the content...
So it seems like the biggest part of female visitors in Austria are queer women. Heterosexual women either don't watch porn or maybe not interested in heterosexual porn because it can't fulfill their needs. IT'S SIMPLY MADE FOR A MEN.
And that is exactly why Erika is so important. She is trying to stop objectivization of women in the adult film industry. As she says herself this industry is led by chauvinistic, narrow-minded men with little sexual intelligence. Mainstream porn mirrors the bad sides of our society, blatantly showing the neglect and misrepresentation of female pleasure and consent.
Male pleasure is the ultimate goal, the scene typically unfolds through the male gaze. There is no foreplay, no caressing and performing oral sex on women is practically non-existent. No wonder why the percentage of women among visitors on Porn Hub is so low!
So Erika Lust as a filmmaker is trying to establish an ethical production process, that ensures the creation of a safe environment for performers where there is no sexual coercion. Erika basically says that paying for porn is the most direct way to ensure the film was made under ethical production values. And I agree with her because visiting some random sites, you really don't know how that scene was done and if the performer consented.
And as a conclusion, I will add that industry will change faster when it sees that consumers are choosing alternatives. And by alternatives, I mean feminist porn, porn that made ethically by people with high sexual intelligence. Choose Erika :)
So much insights on an industry that's somewhat deep and dark. Nice article.
Totally. Porn industry is very closed and hard to get in
Really? I thought anyone with good look or sexy body can get in.
Hahah no. It doesn't work like that. You can get in this way but then you will be getting really small money and stay unprotected - rape, STD, etc.
Pretty much like the situation on Steemit, the Minnows get really small money and get exploited by the dolphins and whales, lol
It's not only on Steemit. It's everywhere like that!
